How Does Wisconsin Parmesan Cheese Compare to Italian Cheeses?

Member's Mark Parmesan Cheese may not be Italian, but its makers adhere to strict traditional methods and standards, delivering a full and authentic flavor to any Italian meal. Wisconsin dairy farmers have made cheese since the 19th century, as European immigrants were drawn to the fertile fields. By the mid-20th century, more than 1,500 cheese factories had sprung up in Wisconsin. Today, making over 600 different cheese varieties, Wisconsin remains the largest cheese producer in the United States and the only state that requires a licensed cheesemaker to oversee the making of commercial cheese.

Parmigiano-Reggiano, the Italian name for Parmesan cheese, is made from unpasteurized cow's milk. After being formed into a round shape, it is aged for up to two years. Finally, the Parmesan cheese wheel gets cut into slices for cheese lovers to enjoy.

When you buy Wisconsin-made Parmesan cheese, you get a high-quality cheese without paying the higher Italian Parmesan cheese cost.

What's the Nutritional Value of Member's Mark Parmesan Cheese?

Some surprises may be in store when you think about Parmesan cheese nutrition. Did you know that, in addition to its savory, nutty flavor, Parmesan stands out as a nutrition powerhouse among cheeses? Compared to other cheese, Parmesan is lower in fat and sodium. On top of that, it's also higher in vitamins and minerals. Finally, Parmesan cheese contains 19 of the 21 amino acids needed by your body. If that's not enough, a one-ounce serving provides a surprising amount of calcium, as much as 30 percent of a typical person's RDA.
